At the Time Line
The Telecommunications Company of Cuba, S.A. (ETECSA, for its acronyms in English) was founded in 1994 then with a corporate purpose of provision and marketing of public telecommunications services. It was not until December 16, 2003, when Cubacel and C_COM merge into ETECSA, integrating in a single joint venture all activities related to landlines, cell phones and other telecommunications services; reason for which, we celebrate on this date the anniversary of our Company.
- The Telecommunications Company of Cuba S.A. is created (1994)
- The first fiber optic ring is installed in Havana. (1996)
- Launch of the First ETECSA Telephone Directory. (1996)
- The first supplementary services on fixed telephony are marketed. (1998)
- 35% of national digitization is reached. (1998)
- 51% of national digitization is reached. (2000)
- Installation of the Fiber Optic of the National Network begins. (2001)
- Services for the deaf and hard of hearing are implemented. (2001)
- The CubaSí Portal is inaugurated. (2001)
- Launch of the Páginas Amarillas Directory. (2001)
- Creation of a network of Multiservice Centers, Mini Points and Telepoints. (2002)
- The Own prepaid phone card service emerges. (2002)
- ETECSA is declared as a unified telecommunications operator from the merger of Cubacel and C_COM into ETECSA. (2003)
- 80% of national digitization is reached (2003)
- Launch of the magazine Tono. (2004)
- The Museum of Telecommunications is inaugurated. (2004)
- Introduction of Alternative Fixed Telephony (TFA) taking the service to intricate areas of the country. (2005)
- The commercial management service 112 starts. (2005)
- The amount of 1 million fixed lines is exceeded. (2007)
- The mobile service marketing for natural persons in Cuba is launched. (2008)
- The first comprehensive cabinets are installed allowing to increase the telephone density in the country. (2009)
- The amount of 1 million mobile lines is reached. (2010)
- The ETECSA electronic invoice modality arises. (2011)
- The public Internet access service began to be marketed through "nauta" in public browsing rooms. (2013)
- Telecommunications Agents emerge. (2013)
- Access to @nauta mail from mobile phones. (2014)
- Creation of the institutional profile of the company in the social networks Facebook and Twitter. (2014)
- The figure of 2 million mobile lines is reached. (2014)
- The public areas of navigation are enabled through Wifi. (2015)
