Telecommunications and Innovation for Digital Transformation
Vianka Godín , Institutional Communications Directorate

The first day of the 10th International Telecommunications Symposium Informática 2022 was a profitable one.

Once again ETECSA is present at the Informática 2022 Convention with one of the nine events that comprise it: the 10th International Telecommunications Symposium. It is designed to stimulate the exchange of ideas and knowledge, discuss the latest scientific and technological advances and their contribution to services provided to society.

Room 3 of the Convention Center is the venue for the meeting, which during three days and through virtual and face-to-face modalities, experts from Mexico, Spain, Colombia, Chile, Russia, Italy, Argentina and Cuba will discuss papers, keynote lectures and will present their works in a professional panel.

To our satisfaction, the inauguration of the Symposium was preceded, in room 3, by the keynote lecture “Digital transformation as a fundamental pillar of economic and social development in Latin America”, by the Costa Rican engineer Maryleana Méndez Jiménez, Msc., General Secretary of the Inter-American Association of Telecommunications Companies (ASIET), and special guest of ETECSA at Informática 2022.

In her speech, she pointed out that there is NO digital transformation without telecommunications networks. There is a social urban gap in Latin America. It is crucial to close this gap and innovation is required. For that reason, "digital transformation is a catalyst for economic and social welfare", she said.

The expert and director at ASIET emphasized that the presence of the Cuban President, Miguel Díaz-Canel, at the inauguration of Informática, on Monday afternoon, ratifies the importance given by the highest leadership of our country to the telecommunications sector.

The Symposium started

Tania Velázquez Rodríguez, B.A., Executive President of ETECSA, officially opened this 10th edition of the symposiums organized by our company in this biannual event "with the co-sponsorship of important entities of the sector in Cuba and other countries".

She appreciated the rapid response of the participants to the call, and stressed the importance of its development in the current international circumstances. She also reviewed the history of these meetings, which began in 2003, the inclusion of the Cuba Network and Internet Virtual event, in 2007, and the premiere of the Symposium, dedicated to the academic sector, research centers and the development of telecommunications companies, in 2009.

The event began with a virtual Keynote Lecture “Shedding light on the Future”, by engineer Peng Bo, an expert from the Huawei Consulting Office, China, who said that the future of telecommunications is envisioned with great technological advances. In his lecture, he presented Huawei's technological vision until 2030, covering aspects such as 5G, X2B, Home+, green ICT and technologies for all.

Next, the Fifth Generation Mobile Networks Panel captured the attention of the audience. The panel was moderated by José Andrés de León, Msc., from ETECSA. It consisted of lectures given by experts from Nokia, Spain; Ericcson, Colombia; Protei, Russia, in the in-person modality, while in the virtual modality we had the speaker from Algoritmo, Chile.

It was a panel very in tune with the digital transformation, which flowed perfectly, even during the exchange among lecturers in the room and the expert connected in real time from Chile.

The Keynote Lecture “A walk through the Omnichannel in Contact Center”, by the Chilean engineer Sergio Aparicio de La Mata, MSc., from Algoritmo, closed the first day of sessions of the Symposium. It was an extremely interesting dissertation, as he made a historical tour of the different forms of business communication, starting from a traditional model, moving to a multichannel model and finally an omnichannel management.

This Wednesday, the 10th International Telecommunications Symposium continues in its second day of sessions, with the presentation of a paper and five keynote lectures by experts from Spain, Italy, Argentina and Cuba.

We anticipate that ETECSA will present the lectures “Evolution of telecommunications networks according to the digital transformation”, by engineer Adolfo Martínez Segura, Vice President of Business Strategy and Technologies, and “Transfermóvil: an infrastructure for e-commerce and payment of services through cell phones”, by engineer Julio García Trápaga, MSc., from the Vice-Presidency of Network Operations.

Symposium and Fair from virtuality

On Thursday, March 24, a totally virtual symposium will be held with the presentation of 17 papers by experts from Spain, Mexico and Cuba. Meanwhile, ETECSA, as in previous editions of Informática events, is also represented at the fair, in the lobby of the Convention Center, this year from Fevexpo, the first Cuban platform for virtual events, developed by the company Desoft, which allows mirroring what happens physically in an exhibition fair or business round, but now from the network environment.
